The Royal family

In 1905, Norway once again became an independent kingdom after having been in a union with either Denmark or Sweden for several hundred years. In the same year, the Danish Prince Carl was elected king of Norway and took the name King Haakon VII. In November 1905, King Haakon and his Queen Maud arrived in their new homeland with their young son, Crown Prince Olav. That was the beginning of a new chapter in the life of the Norwegians.
